Default Volvo 245 cold start...

Howdy Volvo peeps!! Bunchman here. The other day I noticed I had stopped and thought I put her in park when she started going backwards. I firmly put her in park again and she cooperated. I'm told it's the linkage. Upon further investigation, I discovered the bushings were deteriorated to nothing. I've ordered them and will install them accordingly. My question is: Is this part of why the exhaust sounds so bad? Is this the vibration under me that started when the exhaust sounded bad? As always gentlemen, thank you for any and all in put. Mutton for all!!!!!

Not likely that shifter bushings will cause exhaust noise. Is the exhaust rattling or loud? One means something broken/loose, the other a hole somewhere...

Default Rattle

Definitely a rattle.I found a small weld on the downpipe exhaust pipe that had come loose. I'm going to touch up the weld. I installed the two bushings at each end of the control rod. They BOTH tore after I got them through the openings on the levers. They tore on the side that wasn't manipulated. In other words, they just broke off like fingernail clippings. One side was good so I put a rubber washer on the other side. I'm waiting for new bushings today. Anyways, I put it back together and it was still not wanting to go or stay in gear. After consulting my manuals I got back under there. The control rod was just flipping back and forth. I went to the knurled sleeve adjuster and got the rod taught. Now, she goes into all gears smoothly and stays but, there's still a rattle and vibration. She goes through a smooth progression of gears in Drive but there's something I'm missing. I'll be back down there when I get the new OEM bushings. Let, what am I missing? As always, gentlemen Thank you.

P. S. I actually had Mutton yesterday! 👍

Is it an exhaust rattle, like the pipe hitting something? Move the exhaust pipe around to see if it hits something. It should not be touching the body...

I have used rubber houses slices instead of buying washers.I Forgot the size... Last time I did it was in 2010 on one of my 940, still working fine.

Yeah I cut a slice off of a rubber bushing I had. But how do I know when the control arm is in the right place? It goes into drive but it doesn't feel like it's perfect. The drawings I have are confusing to me.
