Volvo Certified Warranty Experience
I am considering the purchase of a 2020 XC90 that is certified with the 5yr unlimited miles. I was told it covers everything and it can be extended to 10yrs u limited miles.
Since I’m new to Volvo, I wanted to see what peoples experiences may be with it. For example, what’s the going cost of the 10yr upgrade? Does it really cover everything or are there issues?
Of course I am wondering about the XC90 also so I’ll take any advice on that too but I figured that may be better suited for the XC90 forum.

Last spring I purchased a 2021 CPO S60 Inscription with about 6k miles on it. At the time of the sale I was offered the option to get a five year extended warranty on the vehicle. They impressed upon me that this was an opportunity to get my car warranted for ten full years, since there were five years on the original CPO warranty. The decision had to be made at the time of sale, and if it was not made at that time, it would not be available later. The extended warranty can be transferred over to a new owner should the vehicle be sold before the extended warranty expires. I decided to go for it, since it would add value to the car. Cost was about $3200. They explained to me that it's bumper-to-bumper coverage, as is the original CPO warranty. Some people will say extended warranties are not worth the money. It's a personal decision.

Thanks. I’m considering a couple xc90’s that are a few years old and am concerned about potential repair pricing so the certified warranty would be nice. I casually asked a dealer about the price and he said $5k. That seemed very high to me but I have no idea what is normal pricing.
You might read some of the posts here or on swedespeed related to major engine problems with the new direct injection 4 cyl (2016+). Burnt valves, oil burning solved with new pistons, etc. Engine repairs/replacement are over 10k.
I forget to add that there is a $100 deductible for all repairs on the warranty. And, as I found out, the warranty does not cover damage caused by perceived owner's negligence, such as engine damage as a result of using lower grades of gasoline, or water damage as a result of blocked sunroof drains.
