Hey all,

First off, im new to theVolvo scene (but not to cars)andi'm hoping to find lots of info here for Volvos of all types
The reason im postingis because, my wife is offering to buy me a 'Project' car that i can work on in my spare time after work as well as practice what i learn from college to it (getting my degree in AST and i dont want to void the warranty on my Sentra). Ive been looking at other Nissan's, Honda's and even Mazda's but theres something about the Volvo that appeals to me. Im not looking to spend a great deal on one either, tops ill be paying is around $1k. So, im hoping to get a model in the years of 89 to 93.

What models do you guys suggest i take on as a project? I love the way the 89 240 Wagons look as well as the 850's. Are they good starter cars?
Im trying to find one that haszero body/undercarage rust but needs some TLC on themechanical side.

Well do you want front wheel or rear wheel drive?

If you want a good project buy a 240 then drop a beefed up 5.0 into it. (great sleeper)
The 850 If you are looking for something FWD then this would be it. But it didn't come turbo till 94 and 95.

I like the 850 Turbo thats why I bought one for the wife.
I am hoping to buy one soon for myself then beef it up quite a bit.

The wifes has a computer upgrade,MBC running 10 LBS of boost. Will break the tires loose at 20 MPH from a standstill then burn all the way through second and into third.

But it is really all your preference.

Thanks for the reply. Im not too bothered if its FWD or RWD. You said about dropping a 5.0 in a 240, well, is there any dedicated sites that offer Volvo parts such as these 5.0 you speak of?

There used to be one but I think they closed it down.
Find a Mustang 5.0 and make engine mounts to get it in the car.
There should be some info online try googling it.
