Volvo S80. Help please
Power system Service Urgent and battery light showing on and off all day, then finally Electic current overload - stop immediately message displayed + Warning triangle light on dashboard lit up.......any idea's. Had recovery out to check in, but couldn't find anything wrong.
Keep driving 'til the smoke comes out of whatever component is causing the problem or the car catches fire. Either way you'll have an answer.
Or.....wait a minute, here's an idea.....buy a 50 dollar code reader. Then you won't have to ask strangers on the internet to guess what's wrong with your car.
Here's my guess, fwiw (nothing). The voltage regulator on your alternator went t!ts up.

Volvo S80 owners need to be warned that our sunroofs can leak even New models leak into Passenger floor compartment because of the bad design of Volvo drains. (Check out internet for defectivesunroofdrain.com) it affects all Volvo's models from year 2000 forward.
You must keep your Sunroof drains cleared if you have Moonroof/Sunroof.
Another thing they don't tell you is that you can get coolant leak from Heater core that will leak into area under drivers floor. Both these floor compartments have 2 inches of foam/ sound deadener that wick up water. This carpet is underneath your carpeted floor mats so you may not even feel the dampness unless you lift the carpet mat or notice lots of humidity in your windshield.
Once this carpet becomes wet--'guess what' you get all kinds of crazy signals from your electronic equipment dashboard and wierd codes even from gas tank readings as well . When you go to the dealer they will tell you they can't re-create the problem.
If that happens get Code Read by dealer or Auto zone can read it for free: If dealer can't find problem
Your 1st suspicion when that happens should be a water intrusion because a lot of electronic modules are in the floor of your S80 running along the Foot well area.
A dealer may charge you $1200 + to take out seats carpet and dry it out once water gets in there. The dealers more then likely will NOT tell you about the Sunroof Drain problem ( it is Not in the manual) and They won't tell you that the A/C has a condenser line that also goes through firewall with one of these 90 degree fittings that also sometimes backs up.The Volvo warranty will not help you as the warranty is written so that hoses being clogged are considered a maintenance item! Even the Extend VIP warranty is denied coverage. After heavy rains Volvo dealers just open the doors to lots of people who don't know about this problem. The stealership is interested in making $$$ If you don't figure it out on your own or with the forums help here you will drop a whole boatload of $ trying to maintain your Volvo !
