Default What liquids do I put where?

Hi,

I have a 1982 Volvo GLT.

The problem is that there are two cylinders that require some sort of fluid and I don't know what goes into them.

I have attached a photo. I am pretty sure that the white one (green circle around it on the photo) holds brake fluid?

The other one (yellow circle in the photo) I don't know at all.

The online manual for my car sort of shows some photos and information but I don't understand it 1982 Volvo DL, GL and GLT

I am just not car savvy at all. Is there special fluids that I have to purchase for my car model? The white container (green circle in photo) has an inscriiption, "dot 4 fluid from a sealed container". What does that mean?

The green circle is the brake reservoir and the yellow circle is power steering.

DOT 4 is just a specification level for the brake fluid. However, you shouldn't need to top it off. The level drops as the pads wear so if it is low, have the brake pads checked and replaced if needed. It does look dirty, so having it flushed would be a good idea as well
