Post XC 70 Timming problem

I bought 2002 that had no compression in any cyl. Thought valves were bent. Removed both cams all valves seal. (Valves not bent). Put back together and had engine professionally timed with right tools no compression. Could problem be in Variable valve Timming hub on exhaust side.

Do a cylinder leakage test and see where the compression is going.

I have rarely seen that, but I saw it recently on a T5. It had zero compression. Tore it down and found a burnt piston (only one) and a blown head gasket. I assume the head gasket blew severely enough to let out all the compression on all 5 cylinders, but I was amazed you could mess one up that bad. I have no idea how long it ran with a burnt piston before the head gasket blew.
