Default 1995 940 with no start issue after replacing cooling fan assembly

Hello all,

I consider myself to have average intelligence, and I am not new to auto/farm equipment repairs, but I can't figure out what has happened, hopefully someone can help.

This is the kids car for running to school and around town, my son came home one day and smelled "electrical" smoke, investigated and found the cooling fan motor was smoking, turned it off and waited for me to get home. I confirmed the situation, the motor was very stiff to turn and sooty residue at the vents of the motor. The engine started without problem.

We replaced the fan assembly, fairly easy, unscrew and unplug then reverse the process, we did pull the battery to access the fan relay. Nothing else was worked on, but it will not start, turns over fine, and responds to small sprays of starting fluid. I have replaced the fuel pump relay and fuel filter, have fuel at the rail and the cam shaft turns while starting.

Seems to be electrical to me but can't figure out where to look, and I am new to Volvo autos, love the heavy equipment!

Any help is appreciated!
