Default Replacing Mechanical Cooling Fan

Just for fun...Has anyone successfully replaced the mechanical fan/fan clutch with an electric fan and relay? I grabbed an electric fan, shroud and two speed relay from a 1992 960 on 50% off day at Pick N Pull. I'm not too sure about the health of the fan clutch in my 1987 740 NA. The price of a new fan clutch has swayed me into thinking about putting in an electric Volvo unit.

OR

How about a Flex-A-Lite fan?

the 740/940's with the electric fan only also have a bigger radiator.

here's the front of the engine on my 1992 740T (first year for the electric-only).

It can be done pretty easy, I had a 67 firechicken with a 400cc engine that did not want to keep cool, I put an after market electric fan on it instead of the clutch fan and it cooled her down by about 20 deg. The fan I got had an inline thermostat that you could adjust to come on at the temp you want and would shut down only after the temp got back into the range I adjusted it to. You will also find that the electric fan does nor rob MPG's OR HP's, although not a big difference.
