Looking for some much needed advice on my volvo with 15k miles. Towed car to local Volvo dealership after vehicle stopped on my wife driving. The dealership has began to diagnose as no compression and the timing belt has jumped. Initially they told me that foreign debris got into the timing belt area and caused the belt to jump. Called my insurance since the dealership stated this is not a defective Volvo part. My insurance denied the claim since there is no physical damage. No hole in the timing cover, no damage to the bottom engine cover, no damage to the T belt tensioner or belt, Idler and water pump also check ok. Any advice or similar experience is appreciated.

20 years ago I was an ASE master technician so I have a good idea how engines work. I don't understand how this could happen without a defective part internal to the engine.

 

Why would you claim insurance and not have the dealer fix under warranty? I would ask the service manager to call in Volvo factory support since as you noted there's no sign of damage from an accident etc. Time to escalate and good luck.

 

Today this was escalated to Volvo customer service by the service manager and myself.

I was forced to call insurance because I was out of town for business and I followed the advice of my dealership. When I got back to town I immediately went to the dealer to investigate myself.

 

I have seen things from the road, like plastic bags, get sucked into the belt area. This obviously is not a warranty issue and is usually handled by insurance. Did they say what got in there?
