Thumbs up Best diagnostic scanner

Hello,
I'm looking for a decent diagnostic scanner, that I can use - before I go to the dealership/mechanic because when I go for my second opinion, I never hear the same issue or error codes twice... (Like I needed a new tie rod - but I really didn't) I have a XC60, T6 that I drove off the lot new in August 2010. For the most part the car has been a treat. I had a problem with my cooling fan, and had it replaced, and sometimes I have a leaky windshield (but it's not consistent, and since my sister's husband accidentally wiped off my driver's side mirror with his car, and I had to have it replaced a year ago, it has not leaked) but other than that I'm good. But I know my treat can't last for much longer so I want to be prepared.

Does anyone use a diagnostic scanner for more than just the 4 basic repair modules?

I look forward to hearing from you!
Shelley

For a 2010 - your best choice would be the factory scan tool/service software. It's called VIDA.. Until 2015 it was available on DVD, and loaded on your CPU. Someone stole it/cracked it so a subscription is not needed. It is easily found on the internet. You will need a DICE unit to interface with the car. I purchased a Cloned unit for $85 a few years ago. You need to find "2014d VIDA/Dice

Now of course your control units won't know that your tie rod is worn, or that your windshield is leaky.

What are the "4 basic repair modules"? As you can see from the screen shot there are a bunch of possible modules (that happens to be a readout from a defective clone DICE unit that will not read the greyed out (low speed network) modules that are installed in that car - that I used to show the DICE vendor the unit he sold me was bad!)
