Center bearing for S70 all wheel drive
Hi everybody,
I am new to this forum, but since 1971, I have owned at least 9 Volvos, starting with a PV 544 1964, with a B18 engine. I now drive a 850 turbo high pressure which i love very much. Here is a problem I would like to submit : My friend Jean-Pierre, who is also my mechanics for my Volvos, got a S70 all wheel drive 1999 with the 2.4 turbo low pressure. The center bearing in the drivetrain has to be changed and after cheching at the local Volvo dealer, he was told that he has to buy the complete drive shaft assembly that is a refitted one for the astonishing price of 1 100 Can. $. That means that the center bearing is riveted with special splices to both ends of the drive shaft.
My question is : does anyone know of a different way of replacing the center bearing with its rubber housing, without having to buy the complete drive shaft assembly. Any suggestions are welcomed. He was thinking of having the rivets undone and put back together with the new bearins by a machinist, but where do you get the proper bearing?
Many thanks.
