Double V70s, Oh My
Through frivolous decisions and questionable fortune, I am currently the owner of 2 nearly identical '98 V70s. My nominal mission was to make one of them a parts car for the other, but it's hard to cannibalize a car that is running well.
In the meantime I've learned all the hope and heartache that comes with being a V70 owner. One has merely cosmetic damage, including a crushed and inoperable tailgate, drives fine, nearly everything works except the dashboard, speedometer, and drivers seatbelt. :| (We'll call this car Janet.)
The other has the rest of the electrics difficulties that seem to plague these model years. (We'll call this car Burt.) Switches going bad all the time, and lately, the alarm system going haywire, rendering it completely undriveable due to the car locking itself down. I've read that the issue is probably in the driver's side door lock, which will no longer read the chip in the key, setting off the alarm. I'm also told that using the key fob to unlock the car should solve this problem, but the car did not come with the original key fob. I found this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-VOLVO-C...sid=m570.l1313
on ebay. It says it will need a code to be turned on. Not sure where to find that.
If I can get this current key problem sorted out, it will be back to the basics of having some fun bringing the vehicles back up to speed. I'll look deeper in the subforums for answers to these specific problems, but figured I'd do a writeup in new members because why not.
