My name is Justin, and this is the first forum I've ever subscribed to, although I've searched forums for years, working on cars.
My wife and I own a 2001 V70 base model (N/A 2.4L, auto trans). We bought it in 2017 from the grandson of the original owner (a sweet little old lady).
The car came from the east coast, but isn't plagued with any rust, thankfully. Bought the car with 93,000 mi, now has around 144,000 mi...
A few months after moving to the hot SoCal desert, the fuel pump developed some cracks at the top, in the plastic molded tubing area (was spraying out fuel and leaking BADLY). I was able to get on this forum and found out that epoxying the pump is the easiest solution. I was hesitant, but did it using JB Water weld (pictures below!), and the repair is still holding up wonderfully!
I do all my own maintenance, here's a quick list of what I've done on the Volvo since we bought it:
K&N factory style air filter (first things first)
Several oil changes (I use the Castrol partial synth 5W-30 and Lucas)
Replaced rear-view mirror with junkyard spare (the auto-dimming oil separated on mine) and I lost my key FOB capabilities... ugh!!
Front brakes (Carquest OE quality parts)
Adjusted parking brake (I think pads are shot, still doesn't engage properly)
Poor mans transmission fluid flush
"Fixed" cracked plastic on fuel pump (epoxy)
Front struts rebuild (everything but springs)
Spark plugs (OE) and one coil so far
Adjusted A/C compressor shim washers in the car (that was a doozy!)
Engine mounts (upper torque stabilizer and main front & rear mounts)
Blew out fuel tank filler vent with air (before this, gas station pump would click off constantly, took 15 minutes to get 10 gallons in the tank!)
Thats most of it...
Car currently has several codes: airbag service message, CEL (emissions stuff), ABS service required...
Looking forward to getting some help with all the lights on the dash here from all you Volvo experts.
Respectfully,
-Justin
Before... mouse evidence, and puddles of fuel! All cleaned up. You can see the cracks if you look closely. This worked great. Plyable but not too runny or too thick. Put my initials and marked date, for future reference... Hasn't leaked since!
