Hey im 16 years old and just bought a 1997 volvo 850 glt. It has 144,00 miles and has been serviced at a volvo dealer until 130,000 according to carfax. Ive been reading this forum for awhile and it seems like a pretty helpful site for any volvo owner. Ive only had the car for a couple days but i love it already.Acceleration, braking, handling is all wonderful. The engine has a nice purr to it starts up with no problems. Theres a few problems like, broken odometer, all 3 passener windows will work sometimes, and i have to hold in the override gear shift to shift it out of park. Also the radio says off and the the buttons for my code dont work. Also the service light comes on for the first couple minutes of driving, as well as the 'exterior light failure' light, but all the exterior lights work. These all seem like very minor problems, so im not too worried. The engine sounds like its running strong and the interior and exterior are in great condition. For $2100, it a luxurious, fast, safe, and from what i hear, a reliable car when taken car of. i look forward to being a volvo owner for years.

Not many 16 year olds would be wise enough to pick such a quality car. It sounds like a lucky find, the dealer servicing is a big plus.

I understand that if you remove the radio, and write down the serial number that the dealer can give you the code you need to make it work.

You might post the rest of the problems in the technical forum, I think they want the intro forum just for intros.

Thanks Sailing Faith! Im very proud of it and am one of the only kids i know with a volvo. I know the code, but three of the radio buttons dont work, so i cant enter the code. Its no biggie though, ill just get a system put in. I posted something in the 850 forum and already got a couple of responses. I appreciate the tips though, already this forum is very helpful.

From what I see here on the forums, it sounds like a good car. Eh who am I kidding if you buy a Volvo it is always good.

Thanks guys, i feel pretty welcome here. yeah the car has some problems, but nonetheless, i love it. It seems like a great first car, im really glad i picked this over my other choice which was a 94 camry. I would take the 850 over the camry anyday!
