Default M

G'Day I joined some time back but not posted anything, I am retired but however very busy, ex Volvo Sales with Peter Warren Prestige ( Volvo) for 4 years. retired down the South Coast and I put my Hobby ( Natural Therapy Practitioner). to work .I registered the Business and I have a small clientele, in my spare time I re build bikes for foster kids., I also tinker with small engines. I have been a Volvo addict for a long time and currently I have a C70 Coupe which is a fun car to have, however in the last month it has given me a great heart burn, whilst driving the accelerator does not respond and the car goes in Limp Mode, just enough to get me home , around 15 kph. I pull up turn the engine off and back on again and have full power no miss, no coughing or splattering, a couple of kilometers down the road and again no response from the pedal. Has anyone had this issue before?... and if so, How was it rectified? everything is pointing to the Throttle body, on the scanner I had quite a few codes. any help would be appreciated.

The 98-02 c70 used the known to fail Magnetti Marelli (sp) throttle body. And your symptoms are those of a failing throttle body. A new throttle body requires a software download to make it work. Companies such as Xemodex will repair those and program them to where a download is not needed upon re installation. I realize they are a few continents and a hemisphere away - is there someone near you that does the same service?

Smile C70 Throttle Body Module issue

Thanks Honk

The diagnosis so far has pointed to The Throttle body module @ $1,750 AUD albeit expensive I may be able to get one from IPD USA. I have bought stuff from there in the past, I will be contacting them today. I am also trying to get a discounted price from Volvo through the place were I worked some years back, and try and get one at mates rates.

Thanks for your input mate.
Kind Regards
TeeBone.

Note that IPD sells the Xemodex re manufactured unit for $400 US, without programming. It will not work until you download software using VIDA, most dealers/shops would probably charge 1 hour labor plus the software ~$200 US

Xemodex will repair yours for $550 US, or send you one off their shelf pre-programmed for $600 US. Both of those will be plug and play, xemodex installs the software in house - so there's no additional software or steps needed.

If you install a new or re manufactured throttle module without software on your car - it will not run until after the car is towed to the Dealer/Volvo specialist w/VIDA and have the software installed.
