moving from a saab to a volvo, maybe
Like the title says, I'm thinking of making a switch from a 1998 SAAB to a Volvo of some kind.
Why??? Several reasons, but mostly because the FWD SAAB is a PITA to work on, and a RWD Volvo would be much easier, it would appear. The last time I looked at a Volvo engine compartment, I was amazed how much room was available with RWD & a 4 cylinder motor.
But, the SAAB is a stock 16 valve DOHC motor that is currently setup as stage 2 with about 220-225 HP, and I like that.
So, I need to know which Volvo models are RWD, turbo and manual transmissions, and if any 16 valve motors are available on any of the models......any other suggestions related to reliability and ease of tuning would be appreciated. Also, I'd like to stay away from some of the fancy stuff like fly-by-wire throttle bodies......I really don't care what the body style is, or what year, but I'd prefer something cheap.
The SAAB required ONLY a free flow exhaust to reach stage 2 power levels simply by tuning the ECU. I don't expect 8 valve motors to produce that much power, but 16 valve motors (if available) should be able to make that much power assuming the ECU is tunable.
