My 1997 Volvo 850R wagon
Hi all,
Im glad I found this site! I have a 1997 850R Volvo Wagon and really love it! Even though it has 229,000 miles on it, I cherish every ride and plan on racking up many more miles, whoo hoo! I bought it back in 2012 from 2nd owner. I have an excellent mechanic but occasionally when I bring my Volvo in with its quirky problems the problems seem to magically disappear! Im hoping someone on this site might have some insight as to what might be happening.
Also I have some not too serious questions on DIY cosmetic stuff.

Hi thanks
One thing thats nerve racking is:
Sometimes when braking suddenly there is a loud grinding sound and a stiffness in the brake pedal. The sound can be really startling and when that happens the brake pedal sort of freezes in place causing the car to shimmy. Its intermittent and maybe happens only 10% of the time. My mechanic checks out the brakes and they are fine. ( Of course this never happens to him when he's driving my car) He said its probably the ABS and could fix the problem by disengaging ABS. Wondering if disengaging the ABS system could correct the problem? I'm not a mechanic at all and am nervous that not having an ABS system might be dangerous. It doesn't rain much here so maybe its OK?
