Default New to the forum

Hey gang, just checking in as I'm new to the form, having just been given a 2003 Volvo. A VIN decoder tells me this:
Model:
V70 XC / XC70 AWD
Engine:
B5254T2 R5 2.5L
Along with all the other VIN info.

With that said, the car is in fine shape, although it's not been driven for a year. So, I'm planning on all fluids, filters, battery, and possibly rotors, brakes and tires. The car has 130k or so. Anything else that comes up on on these vehicles at this point in it's life, other than normal wear and tear. This is our first Volvo.

Thanks,

Ultra

most important is to know if the timing belt has been done (it should have been done at least once - based on the 120,000 miles / 10 years w tensioner & idler pulley factory guidance. Next is to look at the plugs - its probably time for a new set and don't be surprised if the original coils start to act up. Finally when you say all fluids, include the transmission and bevel gear box fluids.

Ok, good intel MT. I hadn't dug into the specs enough yet to even know that it uses a belt vs. chain, like on my MB. Thanks. Yep, so all that is good, and as this will be a daily driver, I'll knock that out unless I find records that indicate a recent change...

Default My new 2003 XC70

Ok, I finally saw the car in person. Was wrong on a few counts, but nothing earth shattering. The good: it started right up after sitting or some time, has only 40k miles and looks essentially brand new on the inside. Less than good: the rear bumper cover had been knocked off, but everything there inside the car to reattach it, so no issue there. A tree fell near it's resting place, which knocked off the LH mirror and a few dents in the hood, but nothing more than door-ding type dents. Easy to pull out. I'm having all the fluids done, as recommended. Likely put set of rotors on it and press on. Naturally some things will come up as we put some miles on it daily, as it is 14 years old, but still looks brand new, so we'll take it! Lastly, was a third-row seat offered this year, and if so, can it be retrofitted?

Thanks and I'll keep the list posted.

Allrighty, so, I pick up the beast tomorrow. For starters, I did brakes all around...rotors/calipers/pads/parking brake. Timing belt/tensioner/pulleys/water pump. Front end ball joints. All the cosmetic stuff that was necessary, and full CAN software update.

Things I'll knock out when I get home are:
Alarm sys siren, exh manifold gaskets/angle gear reseal and F/R control arm bushings.

With only 40k on it, I'm optimistic I'll be able to teach my twins how to drive it, in 10 years ;-)
