newbie loving the "R" models
Hi all this is the real definition of a newbie. I joined this forum because I saw a couple of volvos that I like. Just trying to learn about them. I don't know if this question belongs here or not but here it goes..... What's the difference between the regular models & the ones I see with R on them besides the obvious. They look like they have a kit & they're dropped a little from what I've seen... It didn't think that was an aftermarket mod due to the fact the guy driving it looked like he was 60+. Another thing is exactly which models come with the "R" option & what year did that start ?
The R models come with pretty much every option possible.
The 850 started in 95 with a T-5R model that came with all options and also had a different ECU which bumped the Hp from about 225HP up to 240HP.
Then in 1998 the R model was only a V70R here on the U.S. and they were all AWD from here to present.
So yes the R series is a racing style model.
Which one did you see and like?

The latest ones that were made were the S60R and V70R. The only difference between them are the S60 is the 4 door sedan the V70 is a wagon. The S60R and V70R are rated at about 300HP on an AWD car.
Tech is one of the lucky few that have a 850T5-R in yellow^^^look in his SIG^^^.
The "R" is the top of the line Volvo at this point in time, well till 2007.
08- has something called the "R-Design"... no preformance, just styling
.

300hp 300tq from factory. AWD, and every little option the other cars have plus more. And they are pretty fun to drive
This is the 04 S60 R (05-07 doesn't have the black trim):

Here is the V70 R (the owner put an EVOLVE body kit on it):

That's it the red one. I saw one in charcoal grey wow! 300 up too!
Now for a reality check.....when did that body start 2005 ? What price range would a used one with decent mileage be ?
Since it's a racing model do you guys think it's SMART to get one used at all ? What are some common problems ?

04-07 is the 300hp/300tq and AWD, but they weigh 3850. The older 90's R modelswere closer to 3200-3400.
The 04 models have the black trim.
These are just Volvos, and most of the people I see drive them pretty soft/ normal, and I'm in Cali
.
Prices have dropped a little but are holding pretty solid right now. You can find on from $18-$25 grand, and a good amount of miles would be between 20-40k miles.
You can find some which are basicly brand new (4000miles), and some vary between 70-100k miles.
Personaly...I wouldn't get one over 40k miles and Iwouldn't pay over $24 (OTD).
As far as problems.....My dad has an 07 V70 R and at 26k miles, we haven't experienced anyyet. The only complaint I have is my dad gotan Auto. The manualis supposed to be awhole second quicker, and is more fun to drive.
