Default S60 Transmission

I hope I'm placing this in the right place. I got into my S60 non turbo today and the transmission warning was on. "Transmission requires service" I went to drive it anyway and observed that it would only drive in what seemed to be the "Winter" gear or third and didn't shift up or down. Reverse works. Driving along the road, it seems fine but I want it looked after in case it does damage. Can any one please suggest whether this is sounding like a major investment? I have 225 KM on it and it's been well treated. Thanks in advance for any replies or suggestions. I'm in Nova Scotia.

first thing to do is to check fluid level. Sounds like you are in limp mode - so next you need to get the fault codes from the transmission computer. Not all OBD2 readers will do transmission codes but that's where you need to start.

OK The problem is now solved....My Volvo Guy flushed the transmission and it took 16 liters before it came clean~ Put a new shift switch in and now it operates like a new car. BUT another issue came up. (Dear God what now, he asks) The mechanic asked me how long the instrument lights were out and speedo not working>> I replied NEVER had that happened. They came on a while later and now off again...Anyone else/
