Starting issues V50
Hi all
Recently bought a 2010 V50, 103k miles, cam belt not yet done but drives lovely.
Upon starting it takes a while and when started chugs like a tractor for a good 45 seconds to a minute with a whitish smoke that smells like a gasket has gone.
Garage who I bought it from clean they no nothing, but I'll be sorting them out.
As u say, effort is required to start and from cold.
any ideas what the issue could be? I've booked in at a garage next week but wanted to see what the damage could be!
TIA

The whitish smoke/bad smell/chugging could easily be from a head gasket that is leaking coolant into the cylinders when the cooling system is pressurized and the engine is off. What does it smell like in the coolant reservoir?
That car might be worth about $6000 if it were perfect - given that it might need up to $3000 worth of work I trust you did not pay more than $3000 for it.
Sorry need to convert to pounds for your location
And you purchased a car that needs a timing belt and has a unknown cause of a weird starting problem because?

Specialist garage suggests it could be glow plugs or something of that description, can't remember what he said.
I'm praying its not a job of thousands, I'll be mortified!
