Wowsers! Looks like I found the right forum of which to ask questions!
A brief rundown of my lighting problem and questions pertaining to same. ========== Does the XC90 use some sort of control module to operate the headlights & dash lights like the "C" word (Chebbie) trucks do? I have a problem. First, I checked the fuses. Fuses are good, Both of the HID headlights work on low beam & will go to hi beam when you pull the column stick/switch back but drop back to low beam when you release it. My message Display window & odometer window are at full dim. It can only be seen at night. There is no response to the dash dimmer thumb wheel. Daytime (regular bulbs) driving lights are in-op. Fog lights are in-op. Rear fog light in-op. Rotary head light Switch position is meaningless. Everything is low beam HID. It this some sort of ECM issue or something else maybe? Anybody else been down this road? Thanks in advance. ADD NOTE: Yesterday they went back to a normal function for about 2-3 minutes. I had high beams, Visible dash window illumination, Fog lights, etc. . Then I had to shut it down to gas. Now it is back in the mystery mode. I hate cars with electrical gizmos that do this stuff

Don't know what year your car is - but on some years water intrusion into the CEM causes all sorts of problems. A scan with a compatible scan tool that can talk to ALL the control units would be a good first step. Symptoms courtesy of xemodex. Also I'm sure you are aware the high beams will not stay on with the switch in the off position. The low beams may still be illuminated if programmed that way. The low beams can be programmed to be off in that position if you wish.
At least one of them. Now it has grown a new one. The solution to this was to replace the entire headlight control & switch panel, like the one in the picture originally attached. I now have both HI & LOW beams and fog lights work.
