Default yet another newbie

hey everyone i'm new to the volvo scene as this is my first. my daily driver is a 2005 grand prix but i recently purchased my new summer toy a 1998 volvo c70 convertible with the 2.3 auto.
i've have a couple little quirks like all older cars couple small mechanical like the dealer replaced the MAP sensor and wastegate control valve right after i bought it and both front regulator cables are trashed(will be sending them out to be repaired this winter) and the drivers seat front to back motor is toast. and i will be replacing the air pump check valve today or tomorrow since i got eh p0410 code going on
the car has 145k on it and runs like a top now that i replaced the map sensor.

in the pics below you will notice the front windows are up this was the day i bought it before i realized the previous owner had screwed a piece of wood in each door to hold the windows up, i have since removed that and have the windows working manual labor mode for the summer

Welcome to the forum. The car looks great, really love the color. So do the windows work with the power window motor or do you have to somehow crank them up and down by hand? Lastly, if you do not mind me asking, how much did you pay for the car?

thanks fcpgroton, yeah i love the color as well thats what originally grabbed my attention when i bought it.
as for the front windows no they dont work with the motors as a matter of fact i have the drivers 1 sitting in my shed right now, both motors work fine but both cables are snapped. for the summer i just pull them up and put them down by hand by simply grabbing the window and pushing down or pulling up(surprisingly by design these windows hold themselves up almost all the way)
and no don't mind at all the dealer was asking $4500 but i only paid $3300. i probably could have talked him down more had i known how much it would cost to fix the windows

Nice car and welcome. Yeah something always happens like that. I buy my first convertible ever yesterday and it rains cats and dogs all day...and I discovered that the drains were plugged when my trunk filled with water. I LOVE old cars...

lol yeah this is my first 'official' convertible as well, not counting a couple vehicles i took a saz-all to and made permanently topless, or t-topped that weren't originally t-top vehicles
lol had the same issue with my trunk though i think my spare tire well was about 1/2 filled with for about a month before i got it, my spare is rusty now. i just pried up 1 of the drains just enough to let out the water but i really gotta find the time to look at the drains for that boot area.

I bought a 2000 and i can see the differnce in your motor compared to mine...
Few things you might want to do....start the car wait about a min...pull the dip stick...if it smokes then you have to get your PCV cleaned/replaced...FCP has them for a good deal...I had to pay extra for another tube that did't come with it (that's what my mechanic told me) check for a DIY...cause the dealer or a specialist will charge you out the A$$ for it.

Here's a link for my area....don't know how this will play out but it's worth the shot..

As for the windows look for used but if you go on Ebay they will say that the 850's v70's and others are compatible.....NOT...C70 regulators are one of a kind....I paid $350 for a used one....then I found a junkyard Nearby that had one....a lil cheaper...(They might still have it)....came out of a convertable...

BTW Nice Color My Favorite....no undercarage lights....played out!!

I've checked the oild a few times now with it running, mainly just because i keep a really close eye on a new to me car till it proves itself to me. no smoke outta the dipstick tube, really no smoke anywheres it doesn't even smoke with a red line rev.
i don't take anything to a garage the only reason i took it to 1 right after i bought it is because the dealer paid for it, they screw up way to much stuff in my opinion
thanks for the offer on the regulators i think im gonna go the rebuild route on them though i've spoken with the guy from regulatorsusa.com and he told me $165 each that's including the shipping back to me to rebuild them with heavy duty cable and pulleys, they have excellent reviews look them up if you are needing yours repaired, i'll be able to give first hand experience probably right after christmas when the volvo is parked for the winter.
i agree underbodies and played out but 1 almost nobody has them in my area, and 2 i already have the 2.1 million color led kit i bought over 3 years ago still sitting around never installed in anything so IDK. though i won't install them unless i decide to put the fastbag setup on(which i also have just sitting around)since my driveway and private neighborhood road would just tear them up at stock height

btw if you still have your car you are parting out after the summer i'de be interest in picking up some odds and ends parts from you(i don't really want to spend any money on this summer if i can help it, and just about everything i'de be looking for is mainly cosmetic anyways)
