S70 T5 TURBO!!!!!!! i need help.....
hey everyone
i own a 1998 s70 T5 and i freakin love it. such a nice car for its price (and such a nice car in general). It comes with turbo of course, but its WEAK! and my friend told me you actaully have to let the turbo COOL DOWN! now cmon volvo, u came so far, but why end here? but anyways, im interested in a new turbo, something like around 16psi and/or under 1500. and also, are there any ecu's for the t5? and whats this thing i hear about volvo speed limiters? ive heard they act like governnors, so you don't get the mos of your car.
ya, i wrote alot of bs, but any help is appericiate
thx in advance

Your friend doesn't know what he's talking about at all...
The only time you want to cool down, is after you're done driving so if you've been driving hard, let the car idle for about 30 sec-1 min so the turbo can cool down (essentially doing the work of a turbo timer).
Do you have the 2.3 liter or the 2.4?
I'm sure Rica/IPD has an ECU for S70s...But I THINK you have the me7 system. I don't know much about the Me7, except that it blows major ***.

There could be many things wrong with the car.
The electronic boost control could be bad.
Is your check engine light on?

then either do some research to see what type of turbo you can bolt on or, or get a MBC (manual boost controller) and put your boost up, you need a boost gauge first to see what boost your pushing, and then you need to see whats the safest max you can push out the turbo without hurting anything else...
ipdusa.com .............. these guys are the ONLY place so far that sell a TURBO that is bolt on. the stage three kit consists of an exhuast, downpipe, ecu, and a 18t turbo. does anyone know where i can that turbo.....JUST the turbo, not all the other components?? thx
I am sorry but you hardly did any searching at all if IPD is the only place you found that sells bigger turbos for your car.
1. Read the VolvoForums Resources thread in the General Volvo section of the forum. It is a PINNED topic. You wont miss it. It is also linked in my signature.
2. STAGE ZERO, again found in the link I told you about in number one above. This includes getting a boost gauge one that can read at least 25 In Hg and 25PSI.
3. How much power do you want?
4. What is your budget?
5. The 1998 s70 T5 is not ME7 that is 1999+ model Volvo's. You can run a MBC on your car to raise your boost, but this is not the best way to get power just a cheap way and potentially dangerous if you don't know how much your boosting after you dialed in on the MBC. A better solution is an ECU upgrade. Companies and their links can be found in the thread mentioned in part one aboved. RICA, IPD, Inmotion, Upsolute, SpeedTuning USA, these are your choices for ECU tuners unless you want to go to a standalone system then your getting into companies like CIVINCO and some others.
6. Your currently running a 16T I believe straight flanged turbo. You can install a 18T or 19T and or go into other brands of turbos as well which will reguire some modification to adapt them to your car.
7. A 3" mandrel bent downpipe and 3" mandrel bent catback system will increase your power and make your car sound great. Of course you want a free flowing straight through design muffler like a Magnaflow. NO BAFFLED mufflers. You will see the most gains from the downpipe.
8. Intake system. Keep it stock and or add an EST intake system or BMC CDA system. You can also put in a K&N panel filter and or create your own custom intake system.
You have options you just need to be aware of what is out there for Volvo's. You need to search on this forum and become a member of Volvospeed.
