Default Audiophiles, Speaker Help (Computer)

I am an editor. Video editor to be exact and I need some decent computer speakers so that I can hear the audio that I will be working with nicely. I don't need anything $200+. Or should I say I wont spend that much period on them.

I was looking into the M Audio V40 series speakers. Which have recieved some nice reviews on them. Your thoughts?

If you have other suggestions, please feel free to post them. On a side note a subwoofer is not needed, but is always welcomed to the mix. Again I am not going to spend $200+. The M Audio V40's are like $150 and that is the max I would spend.

2.1, 5.1 doesn't matter. I just want some nice speakers that I can hear the audio I will be working with clearly.

Thanks

I would check around for deals on anything Klipsch. They can be a bit pricey but the quality is unmatched and if you shop around you can find a decent system under $200.00. Just my .02

you thought about getting a good sound card (with RCA/SPDIF out)then hooking it up to an amp + bookshelf speakers? That would beat the quality of any semi expensive computer speakers setup.

Mac Pro (Audio Specs)
"Front-panel headphone minijack and speaker
Optical digital audio input and output TOSLINK ports
Analog stereo line-level input and output minijacks
"

Yeah also I don't want to spend $200+ dollars and I am pretty sure another soundcard, amp and speakers is going to run me that.

Like I said I not an audiophile. I want nice speakers, but nothing too too fancy. Thank you for the option, but that is a bit extreme.

You can't really replace the sound card in a Mac Pro anyway. You might be able to find a decent Mini PCI (PCI-e) sound car but it wouldn't out perform whats in the Mac Pro already. The integrated card in the Mac Pro's do have 5.1 sound capability if that's what you're into and 5.1 systems are cheap these days. You can pick up a Logitech Z-5500 THX-Certified 505-Watt 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Speaker System for just under $200 if you know where to look.

or if you don't care about quality enough to push the $envelope, you could get a Cyber Acoustics CA-5001 system for about $60...

What I need are studio monitors.

Yes I know what my first post says, however I know what I need now. Which is studio monitors.

And the AV 40's from M Audio suit my budget for right now.
