GAS PRICES!!
I was told that gas will hit $4.20/gallon by morning. I'm in West Michigan. I'm not quite sure why, but we really get hit hard with high gas prices (versus the national average). I've tossed around the idea of getting a moped for commuting. I am a bit old to be seen riding one but those things can get 80+ mpg.

To convert a vehicle to run on LPG in the UK costs between £1500 and £1700 (3000 to 3400 USD), with no government subsidy available. The cost of LPG is about £0.55 (1.07 USD) per litre whilst the cost of petrol is now about £1.15 (2.24 USD) per litre and diesel is anything up to £1.45 (2.82 USD)per litreandall threeare rising daily. However, you need to doa lot of miles to justify the cost of the conversion. My son has a Peugeot motorhome running on LPG and he returns about 20 mpg on LPG and 23 mpg on petrol with a slight loss of power on up gradients when running onLPG.
At present the fuelduty on petrol/diesel is running at about 70% with a further 17.5% VAT to be added to the total price. This is basically a tax on a tax.LPG does not have such a high rate of duty - yet, but it is now on borrowed time as it is reviewed regularly and our greedy government will not allow too many people to avoid the high rate of fuel duty for too long.
Some years ago theUK government said that diesel would always be cheaper than petrol "to encourage people to buy diesel cars because they are better for the environment". That promise disappeared into the mists of time as will the promise of cheap LPG.

Anyone want to buy a 4.0 Jeep Cherokee?
Been wondering what has been causing this ridiculous trend. My research seems to have revealed that this has been set by money-game players and does not seem to have anything to do with oil supply or reserve.
I'm a complete idiot when it comes to business management, economics, etc... but those who already have money to use astoilet rolls have been trading in futures market, in this case it is of course oil.
So, once again we all suffer while a fraction of people gain multi trillion $$$.

JPN, curse away. I think we are all doing it now.
An accurate observation. They were described recently as "those spivs in short sleeved shirts who spend all their time making a personal fortune". For those members who do not know, a 'spiv' was generally someone whocould always obtain goods in short supply and sell them at an enormous profit, usually doing his deals on street corners or secluded places.
Unfortunately, in the UK the spivs havenow beensupplemented by the government with very high taxes on fuel, in the name of climate control.

Only if it runs on LPG. Out of curiosity what mpg do you get on such a big lump?

Just traded my 4.0 Jeep Cherokee for a 1.4 litre Kia rio.
Fuel prices & the ever thirsty 4.0 have got the better of the household budget.
$70+ in the jeep each week, Kia I think $25.00 will see me through with that
difference it wont take long to make up the purchase price of $13990, $4k for the
Jeep = $9990 paid for the Kia, 5 year unlimited km warrenty.
Good luck

Well, it had to happen. We have had a strike by some fuel delivery drivers and some stations have run out.
One very concerned retailer, in an attempt to "conserve stocks for people who really need fuel", put his price up to £1.99 ($3.89) per litre - £7.52 ($14.71) per US gallon. He denies profiteering.

Diesel is £1.33 ($2.60) per litre -£5.03 ($9.841) per US gallon.
Heating oil is £319.22 ($625.45) for 500 litres and £559.92 ($1095.68) for 900 litres. This price is slightly down on yesterday's.
'Paint stripper' Vodka is going for about £7.00 ($13.71) for a 70cl bottle. Nearly decent stuffstarts at £10.00 ($19.59).
The strange thing is we are all complaining about the priceof petrol and diesel but people are going out and paying upwards of £2.75 ($5.38) for a pint of beer which is just over half a litre and not complaining about that. That, as they say, is life.
Bill.

Damn, we have to go alternative. I was thinking that vodka would be a fuel substitute and it may not be far off.
Beer is essential, that is what we pay for a good United Kindom pint. Can you get Sam Adams over there and If so, what's your opinion? Cheers

The real alternative in the UK is LPG which, at the moment, does not attract the 80% or sogovernment tax that petrol and diesel carry. It is, in fact, running at slightly less than half the current petrol price. Of course there is a drawback - the cost of conversion - and a potential drawback - this government willtax LPG at some point in the future. They have taxed everything else.
Samuel Adams Boston Lager is available over here. NormallyI don't drink lager but I did try this one and found it to be exceptionally good. It does not have the real taste of lager but is more like a traditional ale with a little bit of fizz in it. Very pleasant.

I was up the Maine coast a few times this year, it was windy every time , without a windmill or solar panel in sight......Sooner that later, this has to be the way.
Glad to hear your view on the beer.

Approx $6.20/gallon for 87 rating in Japan.
The oil price hike has nothing to do with the reserve; there are more than a few hundred years worth of fossil fuel remaining, excluding those that are not yet found. The futures & stock market are the primary cause of all this. What were the names of the two guys that were prosecuted lately?
I don't mind smart/hard-working people getting wealthy but not at the cost of general public or the majority. Now this price hike is affecting food price.
There is a limit in everything and this whatever market game-playing should be regulated or we all will become losers or someone will go insane enough to start a war.
