Default Gas prices what are you paying now?

Around here it was like $2.17 for Regular last time I filled up. And upwards of $2.37 or so for Premium.

However I was just at the beach (NJ) this past weekend and took these photos while on the way there.

On the way home we paid $1.95 for Regular.

84.9p/ltr for 95RON.

That's about $6/US Gallon.

It's cheap here in Edinburgh though because we're near the huge petro-chemical plants in Grangemouth.

Not sure what octane US reg is but here it's 91 and my car runs like a complete dog on it (850 T5), I always use "Premium" which is 95RON unless I can't get hold of it.

"Regular" is uncommon nowadays in the UK, it's usually "Premium" and "Super" (97->99RON) unleaded that's available here.

I find that super unleaded makes no difference so I don't use it.

At present in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia (90,000 population) it is possible to purchase unleaded at 101.9 cents/litre or $AU 4.58/imperial gallon.

Using the current exchange rate of $AU1 = 39.4 pence (UK).
For Britons, this equates to fuel costing about GBP 1.80/gallon in Australia.

Using the current exchange rate of $AU1 = 75 cents (USA).
For Americans, this equates to fuel costing about $USA 3.38/imperial gallon.

Cost/American gallon
$AU 3.65 ($USA 2.70)

So it seems fuel is marginally cheaper in America when compared to Australia and much dearer in the U.K compared to Australia.

Found this thread rather late but in the UK we are now paying between £3.80 and £4.08 per gallon - $6 +. About 62% goes to the government as tax. The basic fuel cost is taxed with a fuel tax and then our beloved Chancellor of the Exchequer also adds Value Added Tax (similar to US sales tax). We actually pay a tax on the fuel tax!!

A friend of mine owns a haulage business in Dover. Every Sunday morning he sends at least 5 of his trucks across the English Channel to refuel in France. They then return to the UK to work. Even with the cost of the ferry he saves a packet on his fuel bill.

octane shmoctane...87 in both my 240 AND the squirle trap baby! And we're paying $2.30 for it in Minnesota at the moment. Our good old american engines get drunk on the rich stuff yall got across the pond. Seriously though, when you get above 97/98 octane there really is no difference in the performance or upkeep (other than the placebo effect....) of your engine. The only noticable difference it makes is in emissions....which is why it exists in the first place. Octane produces less "undesirable" compounds than Heptane does....which acount for the other 2 or 3 digits in an otherwise 100% world. (thankyou Organic Chemistry.....stupid 8 am class). I don't get why people swear by 99 Octane, even from an environmentalist point of view....I mean, 23 cents a week for 21 weeks buys lunch my friends...lmao.

I didn't mention octane. My rich compatriots may use 97 - 99 but my car runs quite happily, and economically on 91, the lowest available in the UK, and that was the price I quoted. Go for the "Super" and expect to pay GBP4.50 per gallon. However, the fuel companies tell us that by paying that we can get an extra 28 miles per tankful. Big deal, we are all laughing to the bank!

The point I was trying to make is the obscene amount of tax, plus tax on the tax, we have to pay. Reduce that to a reasonable level and we would probably pay about the same as you.

my mistake....that wasn't in reply to your post Billofdurham...I hit the wrong reply button.

On your post though that is rediculous. I can't believe they found a way to justify taxing a tax.....by definition alone isn't that a double negative? lol...

$3.70 for 93. Michigan's taxes are the worst in the country, remember our economy is far below the US average. Can't wait to get the fok out of this state.
