Default It's been fun. Later guys

I am not going to get into details, but I got fired from my job today for recommending a timing belt and doing the job. The customer found service records which stated the belt was done 2 years ago but only 15,000 miles and he came in the next day demanding his money back. The service manager was on vacation so the owner got involved and decided to let me go after 5 years of busting my ***. He felt that I puposely sold the belt to simply get my flat rate hours that I try so hard to achieve. I told him I was not being dishonest and even saved the old belt for him like he requested. I guess that did not matter.

Flat-rate techs always get the shaft and I feel that if a shop wants quality work for return business, then mechanics should get a salary. Wonder how some large dealerships are evan able to function like this, but they have been doing it for years.

I really enjoyed working on the Volvo line for the 8-9 months I have been doing it. Now that I am unemployed, I will be busy looking for work and will no longer be offering support here on the forum.

Later guys. It has been fun

Hopefully you can find a good job working on Volvo's.

I know how you feel!!!!

I had almost the same thing happen to me now I work at an Indipendant Volvo specialist on a Salary.

Hopefully you can come back and visit from time to time.

Good luck on the job search.

I know the Belts crack really fast on the newer cars. I will bet it was a 99 or newer car!!!!

I have seen them break at 40k miles.

Wow that does suck. My son in law is a mechanic so I know where you are coming from. No reason to not stay on the board and BS with us though. How far are you from Columbus?

Johnny,

The dealer you worked at was basically Ford, and just picked up Volvo lines, right? With your experience, I believe you will be finding a better job soon, be it a Volvo dealer or independent specialised Swedish/European shop like Tech's.

I expect that you return soon, you're too good to be lost from the forum; you're stuck with us. If you don't mind, try applying for Lexus, Acura, etc... But I personally wish you get a job at a Volvo shop.

We'll be waiting for your return soon.

JPN

P.S: Sooner or later that Ford dealer will regret that they let you go. A huge mistake they made.

I'm a flat rate Honda tech and I know what your talking about. The customer was stupid for approving the job in the 1st place. That's why I make SURE to check and see if it has been done lately so I don't get chewed. I bet the service manager will get your job back. Owners suck IMHO they love to micro manage the place but have no idea what really goes on.....

Well, finding another job has not been that easy at any shop in the 50 mile radius from where I live. I have applied at the 2 closest Volvo dealers (Cleveland and Warren) but no luck since they have a full staff.

Worst-case scenario, I will go back to working on Heavy Duty Diesel trucks like I used to do when I first started turning wrenches. I got out of the big truck area because there were so many times (at least 4) that I have almost been killed or seriously injured doing road service, exploding tires, almost run over, etc. Volvo does make big truck, but they are nothing like the cars.

I already have my heavy class inspection license and a CDL, so if that is what I have to do, then so be it. Thanks for all the support guys. I am fairly new here, but I have come to realize that this is a great community! I can still stick around and hang out right?

Johnny,

The world is infested with spoiled, self-centred, "I'm entitled" kind of nonsensical people.

We need more people like you.
