2000 Ford Ranger:

2x4
Extended cab w/ flip out doors
3.0 V6 FlexFuel
Black on gray with matching bed cap.

Overall nice shape, needs one leaf spring.

Was in a light accident.

Frame is straight, alignment is fine.

needs a new windshield, hood, front bumper, headlight and fender on the driver side.

Windshield isn't bad, but has a crack in it.

Was quoted $193 for a new one installed


Its a guy from my class that has it, he hit a tree doing 15 MPH and just wants to get rid of it.

He said he'll even drive it to my house if I need to.

Air bags DID NOT go off, no leaks noises, everything works.

He said he wants a little more than what a junk yard would give him ($250). He said, "I'm not a car guy and don't know what its worth".

I could get it for $350.

Sent me pics and looks good, but my phone erased them, so I'll have to post them once he sends them to my email.

Ok, I looked wholesale on that. If it was clean (with cold A/C) probably about $1,000. Remember, that's wholesale. Retail if it is clean and has cold air, $3,000 ALL DAY LONG!. Those are great trucks with a great drivetrain. I know the V6 is desirable in that asFord sold a crap load of those with the 4 cyl. motor. If you can buy it for the$350and guarantee be fixed for a grand or under, you have a nice Flip. Good Luck!

My dad has also expressed interest in giving me the money to get it and the money to fix it and we use it as a family vehicle for my mother's business.

Which isn't a bad thing, considering her 2002 Olds Silhouette just reached 90,000 miles (which is basically double its normal lifespan...LOL).


I figure if I get a new windshield and headlight its at least worth $1,300...maybe more.

Also realize that here in Northern IN American trucks hold their value like collector cars (relative)

For example, I used to own a 1991 GMC Sonoma. It had NO BRAKES AT ALL and rust everywhere. It did run very well, and I STILL got offers for $600.


I could get some ricer headlights on ebay for it and sell it for even MOAR!!!

Yeah It sounds like a descent investment, but I always thought that the ford ranger was one of the worst trucks on the road (according to consumer report)?
Just dont put more money than she is worth and you will be fine .

Rangers are alright. Its still a small truck.

I've driven them before, much better than their GM counterparts

 

I myselfgo with TIPSP. I do think Ford Trucks are oneof the most durable trucks inthe business andthey take lots of abuse.

However, one thing I noticed among those trucks in the States is thatall too often people do not follow scheduled maintenance. I have seena few of them with brown coolant, brake/tranny fluid never changed, etc... And if some of the major maintenance items were neglected until 156,000 miles, I can only see loads of problems ahead. Yes, it is the mileage that concerns me. It is not much on Volvos/Japanese makes but for a neglected American make, it is a lot of mileage.

On top of that, the accidentis the last minus. You cannot tell how fast your buddy was going when he hit the tree, even though he said he was going at 15mph. And leaf springs are one of the most durable parts on a truck, and if it snapped it was either due to a poorly mfgd parts or something might have happened there.

Should you decide to buy, I would test drive & look for fluid conditions, levels and leaks. American/Japanese makes seem to use poor quality steel as compared to Volvo, so expect the undercarriage to be full of rusts,unless being used mostly in a dry region.

You should be able to flip it pretty good.

Also if you did buy it search for a place called Body Parts of America. Actually here is a link: http://www.bodypartsofamerica.com/policy.asp I had bought a fender from them for the wifes Barretta years ago it was aftermarket and only paid like $25.00 for the fender.

So you might be able to get the parts from them.

Damage looks really bad but mounts and stuff are fine. Core support is normal.

 

Oh wow! Doesn't seem that bad in damage, though U never know what's underneath. Man, I'd buy that for the $350 and part it out, you still would make out good. Nice find! Good luck.

I picked her up today.

Drove back about 20 minutes from his place to mine and it drives fine.

Alignment is barely off, but he says its been like that for a long time.

The core support is pushed in and that corner where it meets the actual part where the fender top side bolts to is also pushed in.

It will probably take some work, but I have no intentions on making it look like new.

I just want to pull everything out the best I can and get the new body parts for it.

Other than the damage, its VERY clean.


No clue on what to do though yet, part out, keep, or flip.

I'm afraid if I sell it and we end up needing it, that I'll be kicking myself for letting it go.


But in a way, even if I broke even and sold it again for $350, I can still feel good about helping him out because he was a soldier and I could consider it a way of thanks for serving our country.

 

It is a small truck, and I am sure that your wagon has more space with the seats foldded down [sm=smiley2.gif]
Flip that SH*T or sell it.
