People piss me off
So first off i have a 99 S70 T5
Why is it when I tell people or show people my car they say "you have a Volvo" and either laugh or make some weird face.. Is it only me who appreciates Volvo's and my car??? people think its a pile or an old woman's car.. People really just **** me off!!!!
Anyone else get there reactions from people??!

I actually love it. I rode to a meeting with a friend and when I told him that I drive Volvo's his first question was "is it a diesel?" I said NO, WHAT MAKES YOU ASK THAT. He didn't have an answer. So I laughed. Then told him that Volvo put out a lot of diesels back in the 70's and people think all Volvos are diesels. Then laughed again. His second question was "how much does it cost to get the oil changed?" I told him that was a question for Mercedes owners, and that I do my own oil changes. Then I kicked in with a few of my favorite short Volvo stories; like the one I had that still looked almost new with over 400,000 miles on it. And the rare one I have that is real fast, then the best is that none of them have car payments. LOL! That is my favorite.
I had a business partner that use to rag on my 960 all the time. I mean weekly. Joked about me having car payments on a 25 year old car. Use to say my monthly note was something like 27 cents. LOL About 2 years later he got a S60 and loves it. Said it was so much better and faster than his, get this, Trans Am. He and his wife fights over it.
It's just simple ignorance. Most people think all european cars are way to expensive to maintain, and people that do like european cars simply don't know that Volvo made some major moves in the 80's to start satisfying the publics demand for bells, whistles, and speed.
Their loss not yours!!!

Don't let other people's ignorance get under your skin. You know what you've got and how much it means to you.
I used to be one of the ignorant ones who went about my life never really seeing the need to consider the pros and cons of Volvos - that is until our grandaughter came to live with us about five years ago and I bought a 1988 240 wagon for her to get around in (because it was very cheap).
She married and moved out about three years ago, but I still have the 240 (450,000 kms and not missed a beat). I also now own a second Volvo (a T5 wagon) because the 240 so impressed me.
My son had a BMW at the time (a specialist surgeon he now has an Aston Martin) and used to poke fun at my T5 until I took him for a rather 'hairy' ride one day on some of the back roads that surround our rural property. I put the T5 through it paces and showed him just what it was capable of doing and he was, to say the least, more than a little impressed with performance capability of the T5.
Even though he's never owned a Volvo (and probably never will), he's not reluctant to correct erroneous impressions many people seem to harbour about Volvos i.e a safe but unimaginitive car best suited to elderly people.
He lets them know, in no uncertain terms, that many of the ordinary docile looking Volvos seen on the roads are actually 'wolves dressed up in sheep's clothing' with brutal acceleration and 'bat out of hell' performance to match.
I consider the lack of knowledge and ignorance of other people pertaining to Volvos allows them to slip under the radar somewhat - and that can be to our advantage.

Its worse in a wagon, especially when the word 'fast' comes into play. I ran my car at the drags last year and the announcer said, "Volvo? I thought those were known for their safety, not speed".
Nothing like an embarrassing moment like that. I vowed that the next time that would be followed up with a 'Holy Crap!' I am close, just a wideband(purchased not installed), Aquamist(purchased not installed) and turbo-tuner away.

. This is when I really started noticing Volvo's.I am hoping if I can work the deal on the S70 T5 5-speed I am trying to buy and make it a real sleeper!!
Fast Volvo Wagons. That's what makes a good sleeper. The cop see a Volvo wagon and a red Mustang coming down the road, he will likely shoot the Mustang every time.

I no longer have the urge to correct people's misunderstandings about Bricks. All mine are rwd...from the era of "Boxy but Safe". I revel in people's ignorance. If I were to be asked if it's a diesel, I'd just say "Yup, that's exactly what it is." I no longer waste my time attempting to convince the ill informed. I do, however, let people ride shot gun occasionally. Actions speak louder...
