I didn't buy it. I just hope it turns out better than previous attempts at an electric car.
It's sad because they are just over priced for the majority of the market. only the rich can really afford them, and they buy the ferraris and Lambos instead. It's not like a high end commuter that is in high demand because the rich and wealthy companies buy it and eventually that technology is cheap enough for us to have.
Car companies claim no one wants to buy cars like the Volt because no one wants them. We just can't afford them, and even those who can, look elsewhere.

My 2 cents...

Hey...I love my turbo cars and my V8's...but I'd buy an electric car in a heartbeat for my dd to work. I live 1.6 miles from work...perfect for an electric car. As you mention, electric cars are priced for people with enough disposable income to buy a play toy. Even worse is the replacement cost for the batteries at 30 or 40k miles. Kills the resale value. It's a wonderful idea but realistically just doesn't work for most of us. Benzene is produced from coal and can be run in most gasoline engines w/ little modification but it's carcinogenic. Meh...I don't know what the solution is.

1.6 miles from work??? That sounds like a perfect situation for a good pair of walking shoes.

You take your life into your hands walking from the back door of the house to the car in Dallas. Walking to work? I'd be road kill. Texans can build 8 lane highways but see no reason to build a sidewalk.
