I "think" I've made my decision but I need your help current volvo owners. I'm a very indecisive person when it comes to cars because there are so many of them, but I've always looked for one thing, "sporty car/speed."

First concern is there anything on these sweed cars that tend to go wrong? Like volkswagons tend to go bad on the electrical side with power windows and other stuff.

I'll add more thoughts as we go here. I kind of want to go about making a sleeper some what but I want to do some additional research before I start throwing things up on the site. These cars have intercoolers right?

 

Yes they do have Intercoolers.

The Main things that go wrong on the 850 are the Evaperators and ABS modules.
The early (1993 and 1994) had some transmission problems.

Those are the Main things that go wrong.

There is Maintance things that go bad with age. Engine mounts,Spring seats,Axles, ETC.

Are the intercoolers mounted sideways like facing the quater panels or in front of the engine? Does the 850T come with that button that tells the transmission to shift at 6gRPM or is that only the R.

 

The intercooler is mounted between the Radiator and the Condensor.

Im not sure I understand the button you are talking about.

I worked at the Dealer for 5 years till about a year ago.
Now I am at a Indipendant shop that specializes in Volvo's.

 

I was looking on car domain and this guy took a picture of a button by the e-brake and the shifter that supposedly allowed him to automatically shift at 6g. It was labeled "winter, sport (and there was one more label)"

Tech, since you are the volvo expert what is the difference in the R and the 850T? There is a 20HP difference and the engine is the same size. We are excluding the features too, is the turbo different?

 

That button is to put the car into Winter mode. The car starts out in 3rd gear in Snow and Ice for traction.

They are pretty much the same besides the minor body and interior differences.
I beleive the HP difference is mostly because of the Programming in the computer.

I don't exactly keep track of all the Specs. Most likely someone will add more to what I said.

 

tech, do you know of any programs that increase the horsepower of the s80 t6 to like 350 or 400, or any chips?

 

Some Company's like IPD might do it you will have to search their site or call them.
