Well, don't have any definitive reports on this Volvo...a previous (I believe it was a '99) V70 LPT garnered around 32mpg on a round trip to Dallas and back, total around 190mi. My mother in law then bought it from us and totalled it on a trip to Mississippi...
My Echo is at 39.1mpg lifetime (lifetime being the last 35k miles out of over 230k), but since this summer has been averaging north of 40mpg with a high tank not too far shy of 47mpg.
Mustang runs around 16mpg.
Harley only averages, believe it or not, about what the Echo does.

First road trip for my '01 V70 T5, and I was hoping to get a good baseline gas mileage calculation, but it didn't work out that way. I got caught in a huge winter storm and spent most of the first day driving through rain, snow and ice. Then I drove about 350 miles on the donut after something demolished one of my rear tires (fortunately AFTER I was out of the snow and sleet).
Based on the odometer and the actual gallons of gas, I'm at 22.5mpg through all that (which is actually pretty darn good). Thing is, I was running taller tires than stock, and after correcting for odometer error, my mileage over the first three tanks was 24.2 (the computer was showing only 21.3 to 21.6). The tanks where I wasn't pushing snow were around 25-26mpg, but both had a good bit of "other than highway" driving, so I'm pleased.
I have new right-size tires on now (235-45-17) so I expect my odometer error should be close to zero (I will check it when I hit the road again), and I'm hoping for closer to 30mpg actual (I think that's in reach, given how well the V70 did so far under less than ideal conditions, and at western US speeds of 75-80mph).
Amazing for such a big, powerful 7-passenger wagon with an automatic (about what I was getting in a much smaller Jetta wagon with a 1.9 liter turbo). Right now my computer is suggesting I'll get around 500 miles out of this tank, which has been used for a lot of around-town driving as well as a couple highway stints. Crazy good.

97 V90 gets around 20MPG city/commuting and got 26 MPG on a trip to Put In Bay last summer, 75 MPH with 2 people and the whole back full of luggage and beer. Stone stock, BFG Touring TA tires.
The '00 C70 gets worse mileage, but it has other issues...17MPG around town and apparently needs an ETM.
Non-Volvo, the Kia Sportage gets 19.8 MPG cumulative, and doesn't seem to matter whether it's city or highway. The '14 Accord LX gets 32MPG cumulative and the '13 Civic LX gets 31 cumulative...I think the bigger car gets better mileage because of the CVT...feels weird to drive but is fuel-efficient.
