Engine alarm but no codes
We have a 2013 V8 300-C-A with a DPS-B outdrive. After a few hours hanging out in a cove we headed back to the marina and the yellow engine light came on with an alarm. The water temp/oil pressure were good, nothing leaking from the engine. We shut the engine down, started back up and same thing happened again. After a couple times doing this I was able to limp back to the marina going about 1K RPM as anything over 1500 RPM seemed to cause the alarm. I'm not sure where to even start . Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Thanks,
Wow! I have the exact same issue with the exact same engine and year. It started for me last week. Nothing leaking, water temp/oil pressure seems ok. Turned it off for a while and restarted and alarm went off again with the check engine light on but no active alarms in the display.
Yesterday I looked again in our marina and with the hood up I just let it idle. Within 5 minutes, the alarm sounded. I let it run for a while...oil pressure around 50 and coolant stayed right around 155.
Do we need a different tool to get the codes? I've been reading about the volvo penta easy connect. Is that necessary and/or would it even work?
Hopefully we can both get a reply here ...

Our mechanic stated they put the engine on their diagnostic computer and said that it showed a "CATDamaging missfire" error. They checked and stated that the rotor and cap needed to be replaced. They subsequently did a lake test and said all is well now. I won't be able to pick up and take the boat out until Friday to verify.
I've never used the VP easy connect but might think about it as the boat is getting older and may help diagnose as i'm sure more issues will come up as she ages.
