1979 Volvo 242: Fuel system question
I have a 1979 Volvo 242, which originally had a CI fuel injection system. I've decided to convert it to a carburetor and purchased a Weber 32/36 DGEV Carb conversion kit online. I'm waiting on the kit to ship, but I'm wondering if there's any prep work I can do in the meantime to make installation easier.
Does anybody have experience with carb conversion projects, particularly with Volvo? I've got a few specific questions if anybody's got ideas:
-What electrical changes are required in switching from CI to carb? I have the wiring diagram, but if anyone has any schematics that would be appreaciated.
-The fuel pump in the 242 has a pressure of 60 psi. For the conversion, should I leave the original fuel pump? Should I get a new one or install a pressure regulator?
Any information or diagrams you might have would be appreciated, thanks.

Ouch - those kits look like they cost more than the car is worth!. (6-$800) Sorry,
Your CIS fuel pump is capable of over 100 psi - A carb needs 1.5 psi. I would think you would need a pressure regulator with a return line to the tank - not just one that holds the pressure back. Or rig a fuel pump that only deliver 10 psi or so with a rigged fuel pressure regulator.
The cis fuel system is mechanical - however the fuel metering plate when it moves from air flow does turn on the fuel pump on some cars - so you will have to rig something up to bypass that.
You will need to block off the holes in the head for the injectors - I have seen plugs for that ($$) or just leave the disconnected injectors in place, maybe the orings won't leak that much!

Thanks for the reply! Ouch is right, but its a project with some sentimental value.
I'm going to try a pressure reg + return line to the tank first and will probably end up switching fuel pumps if that doesn't work out. Appreciate the insight.
