Unhappy 1988 Volvo 740

So today I bought my dream car, a 1988 Volvo 740. I have been hit with many many problems in 1 day!! After trying to start the car and it dying a couple of times it'll finally start up till I press the throttle and it stalls. I then can be driving down the road in drive, slam on the brakes and it stalls.

Now, my dash lights doesnt work, console and glove lights, sunroof, vanity light, mirrors, cigar lighter, and clock doesnt work.

There is also this thing that is clipped on the driver side door im not sure what it is heres a picture ... any other questions please ask!!

my question is how are you posting those giant pictures, what are they 8 megapixel? I can't tell what part of the door I'm looking at.
It's a nice looking car. Sounds like you have two, maybe even three unrelated things going on, Start with the easy stuff, a volt meter at the fuse block for the lights and get a shop book off e-bay (Haynes or Clinton) and do the basic PM stuff like filters, wires, plugs etc.
It's going to take some work, but you'll get there and parts are cheap.

Remember, it's a Volvo, as someone once said: durable but not always dependable.

Those are 10 megapixel pictures, sorry! I tried to resize them but it just wasnt working out.. That is on the driver side door, where it closes just below where the oh crap handle would be.

OK so it was a fuse that was affecting my lights they all work, and my dash lights was dimmed all the way so they work now.. And im fixing the intake gasket today which im hoping should stop it from running rough so ill get back to you on that.

The moonroof goes back like 12 inches and then doesnt go anymore. However the vent opens just fine.

THanks!

the 740 Volvos have and oh crap! handle? Where? I thought those only came on 850s and up. They pop out right after the timing belt breaks above 3,000 RPM.

I put an aftermarket one on my Cobra on my wife's side. It pops out right around 130 mph.
