Default 1989 240

My girls grandfather (RiP) family just gave me a 1989 240 Sedan for 200 dollars. Car runs great... need a new battery. The interior is straight (so plain!). Im into mustangs and that sporty look... Im wonderin if I should resell the car... or since its reliability is so high... can I give it a body kit? What can I do to make it stand out... My friend has a crown vic on 19s and a 2000 impala all black ... I dont want a NEW car. I want the old classic look. Anyone got picz? Also what kinda seats can I throw in there, also what about a dash kit (maybe a wood grain look)

I have an 89 myself and it sounds like you got a great car for $200 bucks. This car will run forever if you take good car of it, but trying to make it really cool is kind of a waste of time. If I were you I would drive my $200 car until she gives up on you and maybe you'll notice the natural charm that she has in time.

this is one of my favorites. It's a 242 but essentially you can do teh same to a 240. Check out the general Volvo foum. There are a bunch of links to places that do aftermarket for 200 series cars.....like V8 connverssions and coil over kits.

dash kits stop with pads. You'll need to become friends with fiberglass to do something truly significant to your dash....and fiberglass sucks. I think i've mentioned that somewhere in here before......

Although....they do make guages you can install in those breakout panels next to the radio....that's a start.

Seat exchange? You can put racing seats in if you're hell bent on it....but I think you should probably do something to the car worthy of such an install....IMO.

Oh so the car isnt worth it? Im REAL big on customizin cars. I got 3 right now, a 1994 Grand Prix 4dr sedan, A 1968 Mustang (Too much money to work on now) and I bought the 1989 Volvo 240 4dr. I went to a Volvo car club and saw many cars like that beautiful pic you just showed me. I want to have a car (I have the money for a new one, but Im a fulltime college student/ Full Time Employed still doesnt cover that), that out shines performance wise the newer cars. I like the old classic cutlass looks...etc. Im thinkin with proper tires/paint job/sound system/leather interior/ Pullin parts from other Volvos and makin a custom dash, I should be perfect

Maybe Ill just not sell my 94 Grand Prix though and hook it up... but its one of those gears with the stick in the wheel... not much options there

sure it's worth it. I'm just saying I wouldn't do anything to the seats until there's a reason for it you know? I love the 200 series...but it's sorta like puting a racing seat in an 89 Olsmobile...

If you're going to throw a 302 or 351 in it (which is super easy to do with these 200's...) then you've got reason for a racing seat...

If it were me....and the 68 stang was drivable....I'd trade the Grand Prix for a 5.0 something or other (Explorer, fox body mustang....lincoln even)

scratch that....sounds like your in it for the economy of a 4 cylendar.....in that case...I'd still sell the grand prix and use the money for some coil overs and wheels....then rip into the dash and get creative.

Exactly You think I can take the 4 door Volvo and make it look classy though? I wouldnt call it a "Hip Hop" Look... but an old car that stands out. When people see the interior, I want them to be like... "Didnt expect that". I want to go to junk yards and get good mods. A nice system.

yup....it's a classy looking car with just a nice paint job. Something dark to make the chrome trim punch out.

I wouldnt call it a "Hip Hop" Look... but an old car that stands out. When people see the interior, I want them to be like... "Didnt expect that".
Just get wheels and lower it then...with a nice buff or new paint job it'll stand out. Tint the windows recondition the leather....maybe redo the carpet

I want to go to junk yards and get good mods. A nice system.
You might try searching around here to research all the different trim levels these engines came in....some came with turbo, and witih a new valve cover your could get that done.

A chevy v8 smallblock 350 with a turbo 350 automatic tranny will bolt right onto the driveshaft. All you need is a radiator and new motor mounts.
Put in a shift kit

and you've got one badass volvo. ipdusa.com makes lowering springs and all the equipment to properly lower a volvo for a good price and quality parts.
If you put in a limited slip rear end and that v8, lowered it...you could have yourself a 2-ton drifter!

Thanx bro I really appreciate the help, I absolutely HATE...... the gear stick. Its so plain and hideous, can I swap it with another volvo. It has the button at the top and it looks aged.

Any good sites for seat covers?
