Default 1990 740 Volvo codes 112 and 223

I am getting code 112 and 223. The car starts and idle's fine. When the car reaches about 1500 RPM, the car begins to hunt (RPMs drop and then return to 1500 RPM).

How do I find out what the issue is and how to fix it properly.

I had similar in 1993 240 and it was the MAFS (mass air flow sensor).

We tried that, bought a new MAF, IAC, TPS, nothing seems to work. We've brought it it so many mechanics, they all say mechanically everything checks out.

I have a box full of parts. I went to the Volvo gurus and they couldn't do anything, said it was the ECU, which is what they always say when they are clueless. So I got to swapping, and when I got to the MAFS, it was all good! I know, this doesn't help unless you have a box of parts but I had the same codes and symptoms... Also, hopefully you got a good MAFS because lately a lot of "new" ones are just bad.

The issue is that the car is in Croatia and we are in US. My Dad brings new parts every year and we can't figure it out.

I believe he bought a new MAF directly from Volvo a few years ago and we still are having the same issues.

This has been an on going issue for 5 years now.

It's so frustrating working on a car in another country with limited tools. I went there this summer to work on the car. Took the turbo apart and cleaned it, disconnected the exhaust and cat, replaced the IAC, replaced fuel filter, but just ran out of time....

My sister and brother in law just went there and I sent them a new ECM and new fuel pump. NO changes in the operation.

That makes it harder. Especially if you are relating the info to a third party... Is this a Euro market car? What engine does it have?

sorry for the really late reply. My dad is heading back to Croatia again in the new few weeks and this is being stirred up again.

The car is American. it was bought in America and was in America until about 2003. The car running fine until about 6 years ago.
