I recently had the ignition lock cylinder replaced which involved removing the steering column. The car sat for three weeks while waiting for parts and when the car was returned to me the AC no longer worked. I can hear the compressor click on and off every few seconds but no cool air at all. Before I call back the mechanic I was wondering if there could be a connection between the recent repair and the AC not working. Thanks for any info or thoughts.

 

Did the AC work before you took it for the repair? Usually the symptom of the compressor turning on and off and on and off is due to the low pressure cut out telling you that the freon is low . I can't see replacing the ign. lock as a reason for the AC not to work. I would get a set of AC gages on the system and see what it tells you.

 

Thanks jagtoes for the response. It is my wife's car and thinking it over it may be that the car lost it's freon before the recent repair. I'll have to have the car checked out, not sure if it needs to be converted in some way to use something other than freon.
