1991 240 Dl Transmission Issues

Hello all,
I'm new to the Volvo world and just got myself a 1991 240 Dl the other day. During my test drive/look over everything went great. It drove good, shifted good and had more pep than I would have figured. But.. Then an extra cold day here in Maine hit, causing an issue.
When I went to leave for work, I got on the road and hit about 30-40 miles per hour and the car wouldn't go any faster. It didn't matter if I floored it or not. The engine didn't Rev right up, it just would not go. So I pull over and let it warm up for a few mins then hit the road again. Once the trans was warm it got up and went just fine. I checked the fluid and it was rather low, it needed over a quart (no leaks from under the car though)
Today I went out and it did the same thing. I noticed that it would have some power for a second then have less power, doing this over and over. Nothing extremly noticeable but it could definetly be felt. But once again, it warmed up and drove great , shifted good too. I'm praying that it isn't the trans slipping and getting ready to go.
Maybe it's not the trans but that's what it seems like.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Now it's having an issue with the MAF. It's intermittent but I deduced it down to the sensor.
And my fuel gauge quit on the way, home today.. Hope I didn't get a lemon. It's just odd to me though because it ran and drove so well when I looked at it.

re fuel gauge - well that you should check as if the in tank fuel pump is not working it could account for some of your engine symptoms
suggest to read following
In the Tank - 240 Volvo Tank Pump and Sender
and, being arctic like cold out doesn't help....

I'll check the fuel system over and pay good attention to the in tank pump, that seems to be an issue from what I have been researching about these cars. I've got a new MAF on order from autozone.. Only reason I went with them and not a Bosch is because it's got a lifetime warranty. I can take it back as many times at it needs replacing. I like the car and hope it goes good after I get this issue worked out.
And as for the fuel Guage, it goes dead after it hits about 1/3 of a tank, I fueled it up and the Guage works.
Thanks for your help so far!
