Bought this 01 V70 a month ago, and its slowly making me hate life...

The engine runs great, it rides well, looks great... 114k miles, no accidents, looked like a great car... other than the usual transmission crap.

anyway. I did the B4 cover update, fluid is black but doesnt smell burnt. Drained 4qts out and refilled. shifts ok but still flares occasionally between 2-3.

Yesterday, I replaced both the CV's, ended up pulling out and reseating the axle seal on the passenger side, drained some fluid out but replaced with T-IV and went to test drive the car... got to the end of my street and the trans just dropped out. No forward gears, no reverse, no PARK... it just freewheeled. I checked the fluid level. looked low. shut car off, let it sit for 15mins (walked home to get fluid), started it up and it had drive! drove it home, tried to pull in the driveway, it dropped out again. UGH. pushed into garage, drained and refilled pan again, let sit overnight. let it warm up nice and hot, shifted thru the gears, up to 3 manually, and back to R, no issues. went to drive it again, and the damn thing dropped slightly further from the house. I don't understand. It was FINE before doing the CV's. now its like the trans is shot.

anyone have any tips/ideas before I start looking for a new trans? I just dont understand how these transmissions can be so bad.
