Thanks for posting this. Looks great!

I've had my 86 now for almost 6 days and been wondering if something like can be done. Time go searching for one.

What model is it from?

I'd say it's the 1-2 cylinder head gasket blow out. Very common. You'll just need to have the head skimmed.
Here's one I prepared earlier!:

By teh way, mine ran well enough to get me 10km home, no overheating etc, just way down on power.

Regards, Andrew.

Wow! Sorry to hear about the motor problems.

I have alway had a dream of taking a 240 wagon and moding it to be a beast. I want to keep the exterior looking as stock as possible just to keep it "a sleeper".

Your thread has inspired me. Keep up the good work and don't let this little set back get you down.

It is probably a one two gasket blow out, but when we looked into the spark holes on number two, you can see a valve. We still need to pull the head to see the damage, but look like I might just buy a new head from a local friend....

if it comes down to it, we might just put a rush order at RSI for a Stage1 head (RSI is at a chumpcars 24hours race event though.. they seem to be doing very, very good!) . still have to diagnose this a little more to know for sure. hope there is no piston damage on number 2.... I will post back later.

Hopefully it was just a weak valvetrain, and once new, I can run the same boost levels. we"ll see.......

Okay...

Just finished talking with a friend of mine. I am buying his head off his project car.
I will pick it up monday, and should have the car running on sunday.

The plus is the head is basicly brand new and it has an IPD turbo cam and gear for a pretty good price!
ordering new gaskets timing belt and spark plugs soon.
Now I still need to pull the head and check what damage is done to the block and pistons.... I pray nothing happened!

I will not run the engine above 3.5rpms anymore. I can't afford this again.

Hopefully all is well with the pistons.
3500 has nothing to do with it. It was going to happen no matter what RPM you were at.

maybe...I am sure you're right, but I am scared right now . lol, please don't tempt me

We are also getting some parts for the 240 so it can be safe to drive just incase the 740 needs a new short block.

Sounds like a plan. Check out the post I made in the sights and sounds. There is a clean 242 in one of the pics.

Pull your head and see what's up. You might get away with a valve job, the Volvo heads are pretty sturdy. You could dump a whole lot of money into your head, or another used head, and still be dollars up on an RSI head. Redblock heads are easy to work on, hence cheap to have reconditioned.
As Tech said, rpms don't kill valve trains, wear and old age do. Retainers can just let go, so can valve stems. Actually, excess rpms can cause valve float, but you'd be pushing 6500 rpm on a redblock to find that, and you'd know if you'd experienced valve float!
Let me tell you, I only buy older cars and I romp on all of them once I know they're in good tune. I've never had a catastrophic failure, ever. Stuff just wears out and **** happens sometimes, babying the car won't stop it, it's all about fatigue, load and heat cycles. My Volvo sees 5500 rpm every time it goes out.
Good luck with whatever happens.

Regards, Andrew.
