Default 1992 Volvo 240 - Car starts, but electrical systems not working

Here is the background, my 240 started to die while idling or while giving a little gas. After some testing, the fuel rail did not have much pressure. Fuel pumps were working and had correct pressure, I changed the fuel filter. Then the car would start and idle fine. However, none of the electrical is working now.

The car starts just fine. But the headlights, blinkers, gauges, taillights, radio and everything else does not work. I checked the fuses under the dash, and they are all normal. I even rotated and cleaned the fuses and to make sure they had good connections.

I have no clue on what to check next, anyone know what could be causing this? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Do the lights come on with the car off? I'd guess ignition switch malfunction, and weird coincidence since the fuel problem has no relation to the electricals.

I'm with you here. I had an ign. switch act intermittently where sometime it would turn on the FP but get no instruments . Juggle the switch and it worked. Had to replace the rear part of the switch . I seem to recall the part cost around $125. The 1st one only lasted for around 200K miles.

heavy keychains cause premature failure of ignition locks and switches.

No, the lights do not come on when the car is off. I'm assuming you mean the dashboard lights, when you turn the key over but don't start the car.

Would the next best step be to replace the ignition switch? Thanks again for the help and reply.

Well, yeah, but still, when you are experiencing the problem do jiggle the key to see if that makes the lights come on--that way you'll know for sure!
