1992 Volvo 240 Front Wheel Lug Studs
Hey Everyone,
I keep hearing about how easy the lug stud replacement is. I am in the middle of it now and its been decent so far. Although I cant pull the stud out after I have hammered it out because there is a sprocket kind of thing directly behind the studs. Do I need to remove this sprocket like thing? Otherwise, I cant pull the old studs out as well as put the new ones in.
Thanks.

that sprocket thing behind the lug is part of lug design...
I think it goes: thread finish, smooth finish, sprocket finish then the lugs back cap part...
I hear putting the new lugs in the freezer makes it easier sliding them in..

My understanding is that you are replacing the lug on the front wheel. I have replaced a few of them on my car and I don't recall having to loosen the hub to do it. However, if you can't wiggle it out without loosening the hub, then go ahead and take off the dust cap, pull the cotter key and loosen the big nut holding the hub. You should be able to get the lug out then. No need to pull the hub all the way off but you may need to replace the cotter key. You can get them at your local hardware store.
