Default 2001 s40 front wheel studs

So i broke one of the front wheels studs, and the shop i use, highly rated, said that the studs are all connected to the hub and that it has to be replaced all at once, costing around $729. I'm calling some bs on this since most studs can just be knocked out the back and replaced. Does anyone have experience on this?

Yes the studs can in fact be replaced one at a time.

Yeah i thought it had to be BS, this pisses me off especially since they are such a highly rated shop.

Hi Ger,

By any chance don't you have any kind of manual on replacing broken wheel stud?

Thanks in advance,

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but you should just be able to knock it out with a hammer. Remove the brake caliper and rotor first. You may want to soak it with WD-40 or PB Blaster then hammer it out.

I use an air hammer with the pointy tool. Takes about 5 seconds to push out the old stud.

Thanks for the explanation.

Is it difficult to install the new one_?

Not difficult really. There are a couple methods to reinstall. If you have a big enough c-clamp and socket you can push it in from the back side with the socket over the stud. Another method is to use a stack of washers and a lug nut to pull the stud through. This method puts maximum stress on the stud and threads so be careful. Use plenty of grease.
