1993 240 No Shift

1993 240 No Shift
I have a 93 240 auto wagon----great car---my 6 or 7th one over the past 20 years.
Recently the female driver of this car was telling me that it would lose power and drive real slow. We traded for a day, she had my 98 XC-70 and I the 93. Was late getting to an appointment and car ran just great there and back—was doing close to 80---no loss of power. Had to stop for a train on the way back 8 to 10 minute wait. Gate went up and car ran slow for a bit. OK, it does act up I said. Removed and cleaned the throttle body and air filter. Ran great again till the female driver got in. Called from down the street, had her come back home. Engine revved up just fine. However it would not shift out of first gear. Checked fluid again---low. Added quart—car ran fine till next day. Driving it home this morning at about 20mph for about 6 miles it shifted out of first and ran fine till---checked trans fluid—one quart too much. Got in car to drive to the hospital to see a client car again would not shift out of first. This is pretty much all the symptoms.
I’m ready to pull the pan and change the filter, does anyone have any idea what the problem may be? This is the first auto transmission problem that I’ve ever had with a 240, other than seals.
My car really wants me back---
