So, about a month ago, my 240 was having a lot of trouble getting into first. She was taken to the mechanic, and the problem was temporarily resolved. About a week later, and since, She has been having trouble getting into 1st and sometimes 2nd. Then today, mid drive, the transmission stuck in second gear. I managed to limp to a parking lot, found that 1st and second were very sticky. Reattached the rubber cover, which had come loose. Helped somewhat, but reverse, 1st, 2nd, and 5th are still very tricky to get into and out of. Any ideas?

 

This is often caused by worn motor mounts and old tranny fluid. Both those things are wear items, and a good idea to replace on a semi-often basis anyhow. If the gear selector moves more than a half inch when you accelerate you can pretty much be guaranteed its motor mounts.
