Default 1993 940 A/C not working?

Hello, i own a 1993 940 sedan 4 door Non turbo well i am having problems with My A/C it has never worked since i bought it from a previous owner it just blows out cool air when turned on but not freezing cold well we decided to get it fixed and took it to a shop for diagnostics and they said that there is no power getting into that tube where you put the frian into when they ran a light tester over it and its an electrical issue so what could be the problem?

That is the low pressure switch which is a ground for the compressor. If you are low on freon the compressor will not turn on and you will not get cold air. Did they put a set of gauges on the AC to verify it has sufficient freon. You 1st need to make sure you have freon and no leaks. If you unplug the connector and jump the two wires together (use paper clip) the compressor should turn on (with the engine running). If the system has not been working for this long you will need to replace the metal can (receiver/drier) and the orifice valve. Also flush the system and vacuum it down and check for leaks. If you can't do it an AC shop can do it but my bet is it will cost between $500 and $1000 .

Well, I don't know how accurately you are relating the diagnosis you received but if you are, then the shop you went to is really bad.

Is the compressor turning on when jumpered? Is there gas in the system? Good starting points... The panel controller OK?

BTW, vacuuming the system and checking for leaks should cost much less than $500--it's an hour labor...
