1993 Volvo 940 acting strangely

That was mixing me up too. Chilton shows the first one, but the Chevy part is what is on the car now, and apparently non-functioning. And also on line, the only part I could find was the Chevy valve. I didn't look extremely hard though. Once I saw 4 or 5 that looked identical and were under $10, I stopped looking and bought locally.
This wagon came with lots of spare parts in a box, and one of them was a used, and very beat up, OEM heater control valve. What's on there now appears to be faulty rather than old. I'm going to replace it with the GM part you also pictured, because they pass that off as the correct part these days so it's what they sold me. Since the high today is 27 and I need a heater asap, it will have to do. The $9 price tag also helps make the decision a no-brainer, at least as a temporary measure. Thanks for posting the pics to clarify.

For the FPR or the heater control valve? I paid $9 for the heater control valve but had to pay $55 for the FPR. It was cheaper than what I could find online after shipping, and I didn't want to wait anyway.
So the new FPR is in. I started the car and it died right away, which I half expected since there was no fuel in the FPR. Second start was flawless, even the idle is better, which I'm not sure is connected to the stalling issue. I idled the car and goosed the pedal and it responded first try, which is rare. I'm going to let it sit for a while before I take it for a spin because I spilled a few drops of fuel into the engine when changing the FPR and I don't want a fire.
Then I went to put on the heater control valve and I think it was bypassed. These hose connections don't look right. I'm going to put up pics a little later on when I can get them.
Looking at diagrams, and other posts on this site, it appears that the HCV has been replaced by a t-valve with a cap on the open end. I could be looking at the wrong hose, but otherwise I can't find it. Pics soon.

Here are the VIN's. The Year and Model are as indicated on my insurance card, which may or may not have any meaning.
YV1AS8311P1479366 - That's off the '1992 240 Turbo' (has an allegedly stock turbo)
YV1JW8836P1061786 - '1993 940 Wagon' (has a stock turbo)
Odd that the one I know is a stock turbo is not indicated as a turbo, but I guess "wagon" is a more important identifier for them and police.
The VIN decoder on this site identifies them both as 1993's, one a sedan and one a wagon, and that's it. I think that semantics, both were made in August of 1992, body styles are slightly different.
The wagon apparently has "option package 1". I have no idea what that means. Any additional information is appreciated.

this is a more accurate description of the VIN letters, I dunno /where/ the one on this site got its info from.
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle...olvo/VIN_Codes
(and its still not 100% accurate)
your 240 is a sedan not a wagon according to this, and supposedly came with the B230FD 'pulsair' engine, while the 940 came with the B230F non-turbo regular motor.
my 92 745T has VIN YV1FW8718N23xxxxxx, which is engine 87, B230FT turbo non-EGR (yet mine HAS the EGR as its a california car, go figger).
does the last 6 digits of the VIN on your two cars match the serial on the number plate riveted under the hood ?

Yes, but Volvo's VIN table says the 93 wagon is a turbo, and it is. So I assumed that was stock.
Doesn't appear to be stock in the 92 sedan.
Pics can be found here if interested.
