Default 1994 940 possible purchase

Just looked at and test drove a 1994 940 non-turbo. The guy wants $2200 for it. It drove nice and smooth, all electric windows work except one which did not work from drivers switch but did from the rear door switch. A/C worked, sunroof did not (it seemed to be the dash switch). Cloth upholstery very nice. Body was undented, both front indicators missing the lenses. Clear-coat on hood, roof and trunk burned off by AZ sun. Two good tires, two not good. The BIG problem for me is both front air-bags had deployed. The steering wheel cover was taped on with black tape, the glove-box cover one was attached with screws. I'm assuming the cost of fixing the air-bags would be exhorbitant. Could not see evidence of major body damage so don't know how they could have deployed. Maybe they were stolen. I think I would buy this car if it wasn't for the air-bags.

If you live near CT, I think I've seen the same exact car you're talking about on C's list. I'm always trolling for nice 940s, they're getting harder and harder to find. I love the '94-'95 years too. I've had maybe six or seven redblock 240/940/960 wagons.

With the airbag issues, the car I saw was white, I think that price is crazy. I saw a lady stopped at a roadside farmstand, she was the original owner of a '92 240 DL wagon, red, and she said IF she sold it, she'd ask 2k. She could have gotten 3.5k for it it only had 100k miles and looked showroom new, from Volvo of Stamford, in CT.

I'd go 1k on that car you're looking at. Air bags are pretty nice to have if you get hit, and I've gotten hit a few times....

This is a $500 car! Anyone who drives around with airbags taped over is not a person whose Volvo you want to buy!

Yeah he's right. Unless it was loaded with parts you really needed, hell I junked my totaled 960 two years ago after my bags went off, and I got $400.00 just for the scrap, but those airbags, that's not good. Something made them go OFF too... What did that do to the car?

Don't know what made the air-bags go off unless they were stolen. Could not see any evidence of major damage at the front or rear. I could maybe find out if I ran a Carfax but that would cost me $40. It was the nicest driving 940 I've driven so far with a lovely cloth interior and working a/c.
